10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning is not fun for a lot of us. But it has to be done. As the holidays and winter end and we start looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something within us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve piled up over the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of a home?
The exterior of your house could use a little refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the curb appeal of your house in Elizabeth, and, even more important, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save you a lot of money over the years ahead.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the ideal time to clean your gutters, since so many leaves and debris collect in the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest in the spring, making a big mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not properly cleaned.

Plus, pests and animals are looking for places to build homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Residential window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. First floor windows won’t cause you too much of a headache, but any second and third floor windows will be tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a tough chore, and it will require a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You don’t want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty home. That means you will want to pressure wash your house too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your home, patio furniture, concrete patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your house, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem strange since you’ll be driving on it, but, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.

A professional pressure washing company will do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really make it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it is easy to forget about it in the winter since you are not doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio might be in bad condition the first time you step onto it in the spring.

Detergent and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you might need to think about a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are typical roof issues in Elizabeth. While you are cleaning the exterior of your house, it is a great time to pressure clean your home’s roof too, but you’ll need to use a different process than what you use for most of your home’s exterior.

If you see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is usually obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.

The best method for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and then leave it be. This will kill all organic organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Tidy up the Front

The front of your house is likely what most people see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a well-maintained exterior will immediately improve your day, and it will encourage you to spend more time outside.

You can clean your porch with detergent and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and consider painting it a new color for a bright look! Clean unnoticed areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You will be spending a lot more time outside, so spring is a wonderful opportunity to organize the things you’ll need for outdoor chores.

Yard tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have a specific place outside your house – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the exterior of your house much more throughout the time of year when you are going to spend the most time outside.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and bushes can make a big impact on the overall look of your house.

Get rid of weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you’ll be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can make you and your family sick.

Wet it down to get rid of ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.

You can probably complete all of these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Elizabeth Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
